About PORT TO VINO Samana 59

Best for: active families with kids, with adventurous friend groups a close second.

Port to Vino is a 2023 Fountaine Pajot Samana 59 catamaran based in the British Virgin Islands, crewed by Jeff and Caitlin, a couple who met at a dive shop and have spent over a decade exploring these waters together. Four queen cabins, each with ensuite bathroom, generous storage, and luxury linens, sleep up to eight guests comfortably across a layout that works well for families travelling together.

Jeff and Caitlin's background sets this boat apart. Jeff holds a USCG 200-ton Masters licence with more than 15 years of commercial experience and a deep knowledge of the BVI earned through over 150 charters. Caitlin trained at Ashburton Chefs Academy and cooks almost everything from scratch, including breads and pastas, drawing on family recipes and world travels to blend Mediterranean and Asian influences with fresh local ingredients. She accommodates allergies and specialist diets readily, and when conditions allow she leads guided snorkel tours for guests, bringing her marine science background into the water. Both crew love introducing children to the ocean and to everything the BVI offers above and below the surface.

Guest reviews

I can't say enough about Caitlin's attitude and service! We had our 7 year old grandson and she took him under her wing and taught him to snorkel and introduced new foods that he would otherwise not have ever tried! She totally understood our needs as a multigenerational family and planned our meals accordingly. The food was delicious! We were not looking for gourmet meals but it felt over the top special with her hand made pasta dishes and variety of meals. She even had the kids help her make pasta. Jeff was very professional and we always felt we were being cared for and in safe hands. And he is an incredible grillmaster!
The yacht was extremely comfortable and well organized.
We had 4 children ages 7-15 and they all had a wonderful time on their first Caribbean cruise! The parents were also able to relax thanks to Jeff and Caitlin and their attention.
As an extra bonus, Caitlin's knowledge of marine biology added fun to our snorkels! We loved her energy and engaging personality!
It was a fabulous week!

Good to know

We want to make sure you are well prepared and informed for your trip. Here are a few things you might want to know before you set off.
An APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) is an amount paid to the yacht before your charter. It's a fund to cover expenses such as food & drink eaten on board, fuel and mooring fees. At the end of your charter, you’ll receive a detailed document showing how the APA was spent, and any remaining balance will be refunded to you. if in doubt about what is included, ask your HELM broker.
The Captain will let you know if you're about to overspend and discuss your next steps, which wil generally be a bank transfer to top up the funds.
We recommend (10-15% for the Med) (15-20% for the Caribbean/Bahamas) of your charter fee, which will be split evenly among the crew (it's a nice touch to bring a blank envelope or a thank you card in advance).
We'll share your Captain's details with you a few weeks before your charter. We can set up a group chat with your group and the captain to discuss plans before you go.
